Best Parking Option: Parking in the town of Lake Louise is almost impossible in the summer months unless you are an early bird and arrive before 8am. We would recommend driving a bit further west on Hwy 1 and parking at the Lake O’Hara parking lot and cycling from the BC side towards Lake Louise. If you want you can cycle up to the Chateau Lake Louise or turn down Lake Louise drive and go a short way and extend your trip to Morraine Lake.
Points of Interest: Chateau Lake Louise, Morraine Lake. Bragging rights to say that you cycled in two provinces in one day.
Amenities: Out houses at the Lake O’Hara parking lot, washrooms at Chateau Lake Louise Parking lot and Morraine Lake.
Potential Hazards: The area may be occasionally closed due to bear activity.

Intermediate Road Cyclist: Bring bear spray. The Great Divide road often has grizzly bear sightings.

What to expect from this ride
On this route you will be cycling on permanently closed roads with the exception of Lake Louise Drive. Morraine Lake Road will be closed to all personal vehicles with the exception of Parks Canada shuttles, guests of the Morraine Lake Lodge, Roam and commercial buses so use caution. As well, the Great Divide trail can be a bit rougher pavement as it is no longer a maintained road. As one of our test riders noted, this is one route where it is advisable to ride in a group and/or with bear spray. Smiles are guaranteed on this route!
